Annual Events

Taste Of Cherokee
Through a buffet line at this event, you can taste a sample of specialty dishes from over 30 Cherokee County Restaurants, diners, fast foods, deli’s, caterers, and other food sources. The Annual Taste of Cherokee is held the third Saturday of February, beginning at 6:00 pm. At the Centre First United Methodist Activities Building. The cost is $6.50 per person for all you can eat. Proceeds of this event fund the Avenue of Flags.

Avenue of Flags
The Avenue of Flags is a memorial to the veterans of Cherokee County, which began in 1975. Currently there are 287 flags being displayed. The American Flags are 5ft x 8ft and are attached to 8 foot galvanized poles which have a wooden cross at the bottom of the pole with the veterans name and ware information inscribed on it. The flags are flown along the median of Hwy 411 between Leesburg and Centre during special holidays of the year. These holidays consists

Miss Snowflake
Miss Snowflake pageant is held in February, for ages newborn to eighteen. This pageant is held to recognize the beauty of the children and teenagers in our county. Everyone is a winner, with overall winners receiving great prizes donated by local merchants.

Fall Festival
The Fall Festival event is on the first Saturday of October each year in downtown Centre. This event has over 100 vendors participating each year with crafts, handmade items, jewelry, wood-works, fund raisers, games and rides for children, home cooked baked goods, and many more. The day begins at 7am with a 5K run, followed by other short runs, a parade of antique cars and saddle clubs around 9, and local entertainment until 1pm. This event has something for all ages, and is a great opportunity for fellowship with many friends.

Cherokee County Christmas Parade
The Cherokee County Christmas Parade is held on the second Thursday night following Thanksgiving each year. It begins at 6pm on the Kmart end of town and continues to the Centre Middle School. There are usually over 100 participants consisting of floats (by schools, churches, and businesses), bands, school representatives, antique cars, saddle clubs, rescue units, fire departments, many others and of course Santa Claus!

Liberty Day in Cedar Bluff

Cedar Bluff's Liberty Daycelebration is held each year on Saturday, before or on Saturday, July 4th. Thousands fill the town square to experience the small town atmosphere of fun and festivities, which include crafts, rides, live entertainment, refreshments, an antique car show, and sporting competitions. The excitement begins early with a parade through the city streets. As the sun sets, a fantastic boat show can be seen for miles along the coastline. Finally, set against the backdrop of Weiss Lake and hundreds of boats and cars loaded with spectators, the festivities conclude with the largest fireworks show in the state of Alabama.
